Aroma NRC 600 Nutriware Pot Style Steamer Review
We received this item as a Christmas gift from my husband's mother, and I really enjoy being able to use it as a rice cooker/vegetable steamer at the same time (my husband and I are vegans and thus eat a grain/veggie combo fairly frequently). It is obviously well-constructed, and has always cooked the rice very well. It also is very large in capacity, so sometimes what I like to do is make a large amount of rice (5 cups uncooked) and then portion the cooked rice out into a muffin pan, and freeze it for perfectly-sized individual servings. Dropping those little portions into a ziploc bag after they are thoroughly frozen makes it super easy to have rice quickly for lunches or time-crunched dinners...
However, the one drawback (and the reason why I dropped a star) is that the rice really does stick pretty badly to the bottom of the pot. I have tried to remedy this by oiling the pot, taking the rice out quickly after it is done cooking, etc... nothing has helped. Removing the rice pretty quickly makes it easier to clean the stuck-on rice, but if you are using this appliance for convenience, you should be mindful not to leave the room around the time it will finish cooking.
All in all, though, I think this is a very worthy purchase, and stuck-on rice is a (fairly) small price to pay for the convenience, the large capacity, and the steamer basket. If you cook grains and veggies frequently, I think this is a worthwhile investment :) ...Read More
