I PAID FOR GIFT WRAPPING OF THIS ITEM AND RECEIVED IT IN A LARGE BLUE SACK WITH SOME SILVER TIES ATTACHED. NO WRAP, JSUT A BAG; A WASTE OF MONEY AND A POOR EXAMPLE FOR AMAZON SPONSORED SITE.
I received this product for Christmas after I spent several hours online reading reviews of many different kinds of ‘Crockpots’. I eventually decided on this one after I called the manufacturer requesting further information. There have been no recalls and not one request had been placed for a replacement crock because of cracking.
The first meal I decided to prepare was chili. Simple, right? Well, I decided to use beef short ribs to give the chili added depth and flavor. Here is where the only real problem began. It took 2 hours for the chili to begin to bubble. 2 HOURS!!! Once it began to simmer it was fine. But, 2 hours to get hot?!?!? I then decided to prepare barbacoa which is similar in cooking style to a pot roast. Cooking style not flavor. It once again took 2 hours to begin to simmer. Too, long but not too detrimental a problem to send it back. I like how you can add 8+ hours of cook time, which you will need to combat the two hour heating process. The elume function is cool and it is nice for it to keep warm for up to 6 hours after cooking.
All-in-all, this is a good crockpot and looks great on a Foodie’s counter. Just keep in mind you must add 2 hours of additional time for pre-heating the crock. (Not to be done empty).

Received a couple of weeks ago but haven’t used yet because of what I think is a design problem with the lid. There is a drilled hole in the glass under the handle that in washing, allowed soapy water to collect and be trapped in the space between the top of the lid and the handle. I called the crockpot company to inquire, thinking that some sort of plug was missing and was told that’s the way it’s supposed to be. The rep was very nice and found someone in the call center who owns the same crockpot – she agreed that water does seep in, but she was not bothered by that. I haven’t decided if I will try to use the crockpot or return it. I have a concern that when it’s used, possibly cooking steam also will enter through the hole and make the lid hard to clean. I’ve looked at several other brands and other crockpot models in local stores and none have this hole in the lid. I can’t imagine why it’s there.
The actual crock pot is beautiful in stainless steel, the controls look easy to use and do not protrude out far from the pot. The handles are stainless steel and sturdy. With a different lid, I would be completely satisfied. I have used several different models and sizes of crockpots through the years and have been happy with all of them.
I’m curious to know what other owners think of the lid.
My mother used to make slow cooker dinners for us back in the early 70s. They were awful. I don’t know if she had a beta model of the slow cooker, or that no one had yet figured out the science of cooking with crocks, but I was a bit traumatized by the dinners that didn’t taste like anything but all tasted the same (sorry mom!). 40 years later, I thought a Crockpot might help me prepare food for my family because chaos always breaks out when dinner preparation starts (i.e. client calls, etc). A friend of mine is an expert cook and she swears by her crock. I decided to give it a shot. I researched models, and decided that this large size, easy to program model was a good fit. I was right. The first dish I made was chili, the second stuffed peppers, the third was navy been, beef brisket, chicken & sausage gumbo, then I moved on to steel cut oatmeal, unstuffed cabbage, and am cooking up a sausage chicken dish as I write this. Each dish has turned out better than the last. Here’s the surprising thing: I NEVER COOK, ever. My husband does all the cooking. No one is more surprised than I am that I am cooking and the food is amazing. The unstuffed cabbage is a family specialty- and the crockpot made the dish better than anyone has so far.
For non-cooks, I completely recommend this Crockpot! If someone actually knows how to cook, I only imagine that the flavor is even better.
The controls- simple to use. Cooks evenly. The size is perfect for our family (4 people) with plenty of leftovers. Easy to clean. The best part is that I am able to make a meal for my family before the unexpected craziness of the day starts. This Crockpot has changed they way I think about slow cookers, and changed the way I think of myself as a cook.
This slow cooker is the best one I have used out of seven different brands I’ve purchased over the years. Quality all the way – the lid fits right, the crock’s capacity has the room needed for all needs, and of course the best features are the digital count down timer and the auto keep warm, this is what really makes this product stand out. I’ve only had this unit for a few months but it is working fine and I’m quite sure it will for many many years.
